Writing in the UK’s Independent newspaper, journalist Simon Read presented a distressing case study which showed clear links between debt and depression. Quoting from a Mintel survey, Read says that around forty million British people suffer from some form of stress and anxiety, around forty percent of those say money is at the root of their problems.
Read’s piece includes an interview with Malcolm Hurlston from the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) who said, “debt is an emotive issue and people often feel a lot of shame and embarrassment about it. Don’t let this stop you from seeking debt advice…”
